Plastic is one of the greatest material for human. In our daily life, we need various kinds of plastics. At home, we need plastic hose and pipe to deliver water. While when going shopping, we need plastic bags to carry goods. Even some of our shots are made of plastic. While in industry, we need various of plastic products to produce and to process. In a word, plastic is everywhere around us.
Plastic has various types like PVC, PE, PU, etc. While each one has its own property. Thus the prices will be different. However, some suppliers change the material or use bad quality material to save cost. Then how can we identify that?
Here we Orientflex offers you 4 ways to identify plastic materials
First, density method
Examine the density of various plastics. Then use liquid as the medium. And check the ups and downs of the plastics in the liquid medium. Through that you can roughly identify the major category of plastic. For example, if a piece of plastic floats on the water, you can judge that it is not PVC. Because the density of PVC is larger than 1.
Second, burning method
It mainly test the color of the flame, the smell and smoke when burning. In general, the burning flame of polyolefin is mostly blue or light blue. While the smell is mild and light. Then the smoke is white and most of them contain benzene or chlorine. But the raw material tend to emit black smoke and have a strong smell after burning. For example, ABS. In addition, PE and PP have drip ignition. While PVC does not, but will self extinguish.
Third, optical method
It’s mainly to test the if it is clear. Common transparent materials are: PS, PC, PMMA, AS. While translucent raw materials are: PE, PP, soft PVC, etc. Other raw materials are opaque.
Last, color
In general, if there is no additives contain double bonds, the color will be slightly yellow. For example, ABS will be slightly yellow.
